Mixed Media Monday ~ 'Unexpected Treasure'

Haven't played in this challenge for awhile, so now I am posting a late entry for Mixed Media Monday's theme of 'The Sea'.

I did several new things here - for me - but I am liking these results! 'Unexpected Treasure' is a 4 x 4 canvas board with gesso, then a mix of acrylic paint colors and iridescent medium. After that layer dried I used a palette knife (actually a PLASTIC picnic knife ;) to mix the glass bead medium and the underlying color, then spread around the glass beads and built it up with some thickness, for texture. The ocean portion was then highlighted with swirls of white metallic acrylic paint. The portions of ocean that were not painted with white were painted with interference green. The sand portion was painted over with interference red, resulting in this nice light coppery - sandy look. Shells were stamped in black StazOn on patterned paper from Current Catalog, then cut out and glitter glued (Crayola). The 3 metal dots in the lower right are from Colorbok, and the silver embossed metal, which has the word 'discover' on it, is from a larger piece by Magenta.

This will be available in my Etsy shop tomorrow! Enjoy the treasures of summer...
